1000m: Situated in a chute at the back of the course which cuts diagonally across the infield to link up with the course proper at the 600m. From there runners are on a sweeping turn for home. Barriers are of little importance.
1200m: Starts in a chute located at the back of the course. There is a run of 300m to the first corner. Barriers are of little importance.
1500m: Starts on the course proper on the side of the track, presenting runners with almost 300m to the first corner. This is regarded by most experts as a very fair starting point. Barriers are of no importance.
2040m: The Cox Plate barrier is located at the top of the home straight with a run of 200m to the first corner. Inside barriers are an advantage, especially in larger fields.
2500m: Starts near the 800m with a run of 400m to the first corner. Barriers are of no importance.
3000m: Starts in a chute located at the back of the course. Because of the distance involved barriers are of little consequence.
